Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Overview

Xentree for Chrome ("the Extension") helps you track learning activity on supported AI platforms and lets you send selected content to Xentree for assistance. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension processes, how it is used, and your rights.

Developer Information

Data We Process

1. Authentication and Configuration Data

  • Authentication token and user ID for your Xentree account (stored in Chrome extension storage)
  • Extension configuration values, such as Xentree frontend/backend base URL if configured
  • Temporary pending action state (for example: YouTube/PDF/selected-text action waiting for login)

2. Activity and URL Data (Supported Platforms)

  • Current tab URL on supported AI platform domains
  • Tab activity signals (for example: visibility and recent user interaction state)
  • Activity events such as platform tab opened and activity tick timestamps

Supported AI platform tracking includes domains such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Poe, Character.AI, Pi, Gemini, Google AI Studio, NotebookLM, and Microsoft Copilot.

3. User-Initiated Content

  • Send to Xentree (context menu): selected text and source page URL when you explicitly click the menu
  • Explain on YouTube: YouTube watch URL when you click the floating Explain button
  • Explain on PDF: PDF URL, and when required for processing, PDF file data is uploaded to Xentree after you click Explain

4. Diagnostics and Operational Metadata

  • Limited operational event logs in extension storage (ring buffer for recent events)
  • Metadata such as event type, timestamp, URL, and text length for operational telemetry

What We Do Not Collect by Default

  • We do not read or store your AI chat/page content unless you explicitly send content using Extension features
  • We do not record keystroke content or form input values
  • We do not continuously track unrelated websites outside configured/supported URL scopes
  • We do not access local files unless you initiate PDF Explain on a file URL and grant file URL access in Chrome

How We Use Data

  • Provide learning activity tracking on supported AI platforms
  • Create and populate Xentree conversations from selected text, YouTube links, and PDF explain actions
  • Upload/process PDF documents for explanation workflows when you request it
  • Maintain authentication state between Xentree web app and the Extension
  • Detect unauthenticated usage on AI platform, YouTube, or PDF tabs and prompt sign-in flow
  • Maintain reliability, troubleshoot issues, and improve product experience

Automatic Login Prompt and Redirection Behavior

If you are not signed in and the Extension detects relevant activity on supported AI platform tabs, YouTube, or PDF pages, it may automatically open or focus a Xentree login tab so your action can continue after authentication.

When possible, the Extension stores a short-lived pending action and resumes it after successful login.

Data Storage, Transfers, and Security

Storage Location

  • Primary service infrastructure: On-premises infrastructure in Indonesia
  • Local storage: Chrome extension storage (sync/local) on your browser profile

Security Measures

  • Data transmission uses secure transport (HTTPS/WSS)
  • Authentication uses bearer token-based authorization
  • Expired auth tokens are cleared from extension storage when detected
  • Permission scopes are limited to declared Chrome APIs and host patterns

Retention

  • Pending actions in extension storage are short-lived and automatically expired by extension logic
  • Recent diagnostics in extension storage are limited to a small rolling buffer
  • Server-side retention follows Xentree operational and legal requirements

Data Sharing

We Do Not Sell Personal Data

  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties
  • We do not share your private learning activity publicly unless you choose to publish related profile content

Limited Sharing Cases

  • Service execution: Data is processed by Xentree backend services to provide extension functionality
  • AI processing: User-initiated Explain/analysis workflows may involve model providers through Xentree backend orchestration
  • Legal compliance: We may disclose data if required by law or valid legal process

Analytics and Monitoring

Xentree uses analytics and monitoring tools, including Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and PostHog, to improve service quality and understand product usage patterns.

Extension-generated operational events are sent to Xentree APIs for product functionality and telemetry; they are not used to sell advertising profiles.

Permissions Justification (Current Extension)

  • storage: Store auth, settings, and short-lived pending/diagnostic states.
  • tabs: Detect supported tab URLs and manage tab navigation for Xentree flows.
  • scripting: Ensure content scripts run on supported pages (for example, PDF handling and message bridging).
  • sidePanel: Open Xentree in Chrome Side Panel experience.
  • webNavigation: Detect relevant auth/navigation completion events.
  • webRequest: Detect PDF main-frame responses by headers for PDF flow support.
  • contextMenus: Provide "Send to Xentree" action on selected text.
  • notifications: Show status notifications (for example sign-in required, upload status).
  • host_permissions: Limited to declared domains/patterns, including Xentree domains, supported AI platforms, YouTube, and PDF/document URL patterns.

Your Choices and Rights

  • Access: Request information about your data via [email protected]
  • Deletion: Request deletion of server-side data via [email protected]
  • Stop collection: Uninstall the extension to stop extension-side collection
  • Disable notifications: Control notification permission/settings in Chrome

Children's Privacy

This Extension is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material updates will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date.
